You should come to classes in comfortable street wear or gym/training clothing. You will be moving and need to be comfortable. Please don't wear clothing with hoods, or hanging ties that can become caught or torn. You will need to remove all jewelry and watches before class. We ask you to tie long hair up out of the way.
Is my trainer qualified?
Yes. Boris has NZQA Personal Training Certificate Level 4. He is a REP's registered Personal Trainer and a Nutrition Coach. Not only qualified, but very experienced. Boris has depended on his skills and expertise having served internationally with military special forces. Boris is also an internationally certified boxing coach and has competed in amateur MMA.
Is this a fitness class? Do I need to be fit to attend the classes?
Our self defence classes are not fitness classes. A base level of fitness will help you apply the techniques effectively and we do recommend regular fitness and agility training to improve application of the techniques. Will I be learning martial arts?
No. Our classes are not martial arts based. You will be learning practical techniques that can be applied in real situations. You will be disappointed if you come to our classes to learn how to fight someone as we focus on the defensive aspect. Some of techniques/movements are taught in patterns that will work together to disable your attacker. A lot of the movements use momentum rather than strength.
Can I book a private class to improve combat techniques?
Yes. Our trainer is a retired special forces commando. His specialty is person-to-person combat with and without weapons. If you are training in a specific discipline like MMA, Muy Thai, Kick Boxing, Krav Maga, Silat our trainer can assist with technique, speed and fitness. Can I book private boxing coaching?
Yes. Our trainer is a certified international boxing coach and personal trainer. Our group classes do not cover boxing techniques however private lessons can be arranged to improve technique, speed and fitness. I would like to take a boxing based fitness class. Can I book one at Human Weapon?
Yes you can book a Private class for yourself or a group of friends. We don't show any group classes in our timetable, but we run boxing based fitness sessions by arrangement.
Where are do I need to come for classes?
We are based on the Hibiscus Coast, Auckland New Zealand. Classes are held in our private training studio in Totara Views Red Beach, local parks/beaches or we can come to you.
Are there any general classes that I can attend so that I can continue to practice?
We run practice sessions on a regular basis specifically for practicing the techniques taught in classes. You must have attended our classes to be eligible for the practice sessions. Anyone registered for private or group classes can attend these sessions FREE of charge. Following the block course you can attend practice sessions at a nominal charge. The focus of the practice class is to improve technique and speed and to gain confidence in using the techniques with other people.
What is the New Zealand law on defending myself?
Self defense classes are recommended by the New Zealand Police. “Everyone is justified in using, in the defence of himself or another, such force as, in the circumstances as he believes them to be, it is reasonable to use.” (Section 48 of the Crimes Act 1961.)
