Often we see people promoting self defense training/classes/techniques however what we see is that they are teaching people to fight. Students are taught to jump into a confrontation and escalate aggression to get the upper hand rather than stepping back and looking at how best to defend and protect themselves. In order to fight someone you need to be mentally prepared. When under stress or shock of an attack you havn't had a lot of time to think or prepare mentally to fight someone. To use fighting methods to defend yourself when you are not mentally prepared just leads to failure. Techniques like Krav Maga, Kung Fu, Silat, and many martial arts are not designed for self defense and certainly not for everyday, real world situations. They are designed for combat, that is to hurt others. Human Weapon Self Defense bases training on primary moves such as retreat, protect, balance and speed. Moves which are instinctual and ones that that your body recognises. If you improve the movement you can isolate the danger. Most attacks where the victim retaliates in an aggressive nature the attacker becomes more aggressive and escalates the force of attack. We believe that its always better to isolate/separate yourself from the attacker, defend yourself and your position and de-escalate any confrontation with specific instinctual moves.
